The basics, in plain English

Pods come and go, and each gets a new address. A Service gives a stable, unchanging address and name for a group of Pods, so other apps can reliably reach them even as Pods are replaced.

Service
A stable address and name for a set of Pods, even as those Pods change.
ClusterIP
A Service reachable only inside the cluster (the default).
LoadBalancer
A Service exposed to the outside world through a cloud load balancer.
Service discovery
Finding the right Pods by a steady name instead of chasing changing IPs.
In-cluster DNS
A built-in phonebook that lets Pods reach Services by simple names.
